Steps to Remove the Windshield and Mouting Bracket

Ok, I have posts here on what to do to remove the custom stickers, what to do about the saddle bag clips, and what to do about lighting. Now it is time to get one started on removing the windshield as summer quickly approaches.

I found a post by reading through the buffeting topics, etc that Brew posted and would love to get some images added as well as I plan on doing this for the up coming summer weather here in Cali.

I see he indicated the steps but if we could also add an image or two on the exact bolts for just the screen and the ones for the mounts that would be a huge help and the right order if needed. I do not want to scratch this thing and since I take it to work every day, I'd like to put it on for those cold rides through the mountains in the morning as well. I would leave the mount on for a bit just in case and then take it off as well later.

It is easy to remove the windscreeen, it is a little more difficult if you are also removing the mounts. There
are 4 bolts that hold the screen on, need a 8mm and a 12 mm socket. One of each size on each side, when you remove the larger bolt, there is a spacer between the mount and the screen, make sure you have a hold on it before you remove the lower (larger) bolt so it does not hit the fender. To remove the mounts, the upper is bolted to the upper triple tree bottom, 2 bolts, plus you need to remove the clutch cable from the lever it is routed thru the upper mount. To remove the lower there are 4 bolts that hold it to the lower tree, plus you
need to unbolt the headlight and move it forward to get the mount out.

When I was a kid I lived within walking distance of both the Rose Bowl & JPL, My Dad & Grandfather both worked at JPL during the 60's

HA! First thing I thought of was Thrifty reading a post of me removing the shield with his acceptance. Regarding the neck and stomach muscles, you are not kidding. Also the arms and back. I am a pretty decent size guy and thought I was in ok shape... ride a bike at 80 mph for 3 hours a day... bet you will feel it.

My suggested to those thinking about it, leave the supporting bracket on so you can put the thing back on with 4 bolts if you do not like it. For me, I am liking the free feeling and oh the head buffeting is gone... but it is an entirely different feeling with the wind smacking you in the face at 80 I gotta say.

Great post CPRaider and Brew! I just put mine back on and have lowers inbound. I want to ride it in to work as much as possible and don't want to freeze my arse off during the morning commute. When the summer hits, I may want to pop it off and enjoy that breeze.

This pic is in my gallery, it shows the location of the 2 mounting points, the bolts and washers are already removed. If you just want to remove the windscreen and leave the mount for days when you want a screen, that is all that has to be removed. Two bolts each side, watch out for the spacers like I mentioned in the other post.There are other pics in my gallery.
